Khanh Hoa Province on Alert for Heavy Rains, Flash Floods, and Landslides

Khanh Hoa Province in central Vietnam has implemented stringent preparedness measures in anticipation of heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides. On September 22, the Provincial People's Committee issued a directive urging all departments, sectors, and local authorities to proactively develop response plans for these natural disasters. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, as of September 22, Khanh Hoa Province has experienced widespread rainfall ranging from 60-130mm, with localized areas exceeding 200mm. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue from September 23 through the end of September 24. The Provincial People's Committee Chairman has instructed all communes, wards, and special districts to closely monitor areas along rivers, streams, and low-lying regions prone to flash floods and landslides. They are to organize the relocation and evacuation of residents as necessary. Additionally, measures to control dangerous areas, ensure transportation, improve drainage, and prevent flooding through adequate equipment and supplies have been mandated. The Provincial Military Command and the Provincial Police are preparing personnel and equipment for rescue and relief operations in critical areas. Furthermore, the use of drones will be employed to promptly identify regions at risk of landslides and flash floods, aiding in early warnings and resident evacuation. Reservoir management units are required to strictly adhere to operational procedures, conduct safety inspections of facilities, and issue early warnings to downstream residents when regulating water discharge. The Department of Construction will inspect and repair damaged transportation routes affected by landslides, enhance warning signs in hazardous zones, and prevent residents from crossing submerged areas or deep water. The Department of Education and Training will make flexible decisions regarding school closures based on actual weather conditions to ensure the safety of students and teachers. The Department of Health will ensure the provision of medical services, environmental sanitation, and disease prevention and control in flooded areas. All departments, sectors, and local authorities are to maintain strict 24-hour duty shifts, continuously monitor the flood situation, review response plans, and promptly report damage assessments and recovery progress to the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Civil Defense Command for timely directives.
