Cambodia Celebrates 77th Anniversary of China's Founding, Emphasizing Steadfast 'Iron Brotherhood'

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn, extended his warmest congratulations on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia. He lauded China's unwavering development over the past 77 years, overcoming difficulties to achieve significant accomplishments in trade, economy, finance, industry, science, technology, and innovation. Sokhonn expressed optimism that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the nation will achieve further new goals. These remarks were made during a celebration hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia in Phnom Penh on the evening of September 21, 2026. Deputy Prime Minister Sokhonn highlighted that 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the first royal visit of His Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk to China, which opened a new chapter in Cambodia-China friendship. Over the past seven decades, the Cambodia-China relationship has been continuously nurtured with utmost attention from successive generations of leaders from both countries, leading to its unceasing progress and transformation into an 'iron brotherhood' and a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Both nations consistently support each other's core interests and respect each other's sovereignty. He noted China's full support for Cambodia's sustainable development path, while Cambodia firmly adheres to the 'One China' principle, considering issues concerning Hong Kong, Taiwan, Xinjiang, and Tibet as purely China's internal affairs. Sokhonn added that the two countries maintain their fine tradition of frequent and close exchanges, reflecting the robustness of their bilateral ties. On this occasion, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, Wang Wenbin, stated that this year also marks the 68th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia. He affirmed that bilateral ties continue to maintain a strong momentum of development, characterized by high-level, broad, and in-depth cooperation. Ambassador Wang further described China and Cambodia as true friends and good partners who share weal and woe and trust each other, emphasizing that the 'iron brotherhood' between the two countries is becoming stronger and more enduring. Ambassador Wang also highlighted that Cambodia possesses significant and broad development potential, and the Chinese side strongly supports Cambodia in choosing its own development path, always being its most trusted partner in this process. He further noted that since the beginning of the year, the outcomes of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Cambodia last year have been implemented effectively. The subsequent visits of Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet to China have elevated Cambodia-China relations to a new level.
