Overflow from Aung Paung Laung Dam in Nay Pyi Taw decreases

The overflow from the Aung Paung Laung Dam in Pinmana Township, Nay Pyi Taw, which had risen to 9,987 cubic feet per second on September 2, has decreased to approximately 9,065 cubic feet (922 feet) per second as of the noon announcement on September 4. According to announcements from the Aung Paung Laung Dam, the overflow was approximately 2,050 cubic feet per second at 8:45 AM on August 31, and although it increased to nearly five times that amount, reaching 9,987 cubic feet per second at noon on September 2, the water flow rate at the spillway had decreased to 9,065 cubic feet per second by the noon announcement on September 4. Data indicates that the overflow, first observed on August 31, reached its peak on September 2, and has now decreased by approximately 922 cubic feet per second compared to that volume on September 4. According to the annual overflow data for the Aung Paung Laung Dam, it was 56,681 cubic feet per second in 2024 and 19,052 cubic feet per second in 2025. As of September 4 this year, it is only 9,065 cubic feet per second, making it the lowest overflow volume for the three-year comparison. It has been announced that under the current conditions, there is no risk of flooding unless there is exceptionally heavy rainfall within the watershed areas of the Paung Laung River, and the integrity of the dam and spillway is good. Regarding the Aung Paung Laung Dam, concerns about flood risks in villages downstream, including Sinthe, Ngai Creek, and Sok Village along the Paung Laung River basin in Pinmana Township, are merely rumors stemming from misunderstood or incomplete news, as further clarified by the Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management (Construction-5) through video messages from humanitarian volunteers in Zeyathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw. The Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management (Construction-5) is issuing official announcements three times a day at 6 AM, 12 PM, and 6 PM to ensure the public has accurate information about the dam, and will continue to provide timely updates in case of any unusual developments. Officials have specially requested the public to review the basis of any news they hear, listen carefully to announcements and advisories, and refrain from sharing unverified false news on social media.
