Cambodia Organizes Roadside Vendors to Improve Traffic Safety and Aesthetics

In Cambodia's Takeo province, an initiative to improve public hygiene, aesthetics, and traffic safety has been implemented. On August 7th, Mr. Ou Chamroeun, the District Governor of Trang District, led a joint working group comprising deputy district governors, relevant department officials, local authorities, and armed forces to organize and guide vendors along National Road 2 in Lve Market and Kampong Chrey Market. This guidance took place at two markets along National Road 2: Lve Market in 8 Mummon Commune and Kampong Chrey Market in Smaong Commune. Governor Ou Chamroeun instructed the vendors and residents operating along the road to arrange their goods and stalls in an orderly manner, strictly prohibiting any encroachment on sidewalks or public roadways. This measure aims to facilitate public movement, ensure traffic safety, reduce accidents, and enhance the overall aesthetics and sanitation of the locality. The governor appealed to all vendors and residents to continue cooperating with local authorities by adhering to the guidance, jointly maintaining hygiene, the environment, and public order. This effort seeks to beautify and secure National Road 2, making travel more convenient for residents and travelers alike. Furthermore, Governor Ou Chamroeun stated that this organization is not intended to restrict business but rather to create order, thereby attracting more customers and tourists, leading to improved family incomes. He also directed all district specialized forces to regularly guide vendors based on principles of education and mutual understanding, ensuring that daily operations and public movement are not adversely affected.
