Japanese Red Cross Nursing Students Visit Cambodian Red Cross to Learn Humanitarian Work
Seven nursing students from the Japanese Red Cross visited the Cambodian Red Cross headquarters to learn about humanitarian activities. The visit is part of their curriculum on public health and medical care, where they received explanations on the role, structure, and priority areas of the Cambodian Red Cross.
PHNOM PENH, September 14, 2026 (AKP) -- Ms. Pum Chanty Niny, Secretary General of the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC), on Monday morning received a delegation of seven nursing students from the Japanese Red Cross. The delegation, led by Madam TAHARA (SASAGAWA) Emi, a professor at the Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing, paid a courtesy call and sought to understand humanitarian work at the CRC headquarters. The visit of the Japanese Red Cross nursing students to Cambodia, from September 13 to 20, 2026, aims to pay courtesy calls and visit the CRC headquarters, as well as the National Centre for Orphans and Children to respond to their curriculum context on public health and medical care. Ms. Pum Chanty Niny expressed her pleasure and warm welcome, conveying greetings from Samdech Kittipreah Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross. She stated that to date, 299 Japanese Red Cross medical students have visited the Cambodian Red Cross, urging them to consider each other as brothers and sisters between the Japanese and Cambodian Red Cross. The Secretary General informed the delegation that the Cambodian Red Cross currently operates under the esteemed patronage of Her Majesty the Queen Mother of Cambodia as Honorary President, Samdech Kittipreah Bun Rany Hun Sen as President, and the First Lady Doctor as Permanent Vice President. She explained the role and structure of the Cambodian Red Cross from the central level down to its branches. Concurrently, the CRC has two networks: volunteers in villages and youth in schools and educational institutions, with each network comprising tens of thousands of members. The four priority sectors align with the Cambodian Red Cross's 2021-2030 strategic direction: 1. Disaster and crisis management 2. Health and community health care 3. Promotion of fundamental principles and humanitarian values 4. Organizational development Key activities include disaster response, community health education, first aid, and access to clean water and sanitation. Special emphasis is placed on mental health education for pregnant women in shelters, as well as awareness campaigns on non-communicable and communicable diseases.
