Cambodia and Myanmar Sign Four Agreements to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation

PHNOM PENH, Sept 12, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Myanmar signed four agreements Friday aimed at strengthening economic, investment, cultural and media cooperation during Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing’s state visit to Phnom Penh. Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and President Min Aung Hlaing witnessed the signing ceremony at the Peace Palace, underscoring both governments’ intention to expand ties across multiple sectors. Officials said the documents include an agreement on the elimination of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion, a reciprocal investment promotion and protection pact, an amendment to the existing cultural cooperation accord, and a memorandum of understanding on media and information cooperation. The double taxation agreement seeks to avoid overlapping income tax obligations and prevent tax evasion, while the investment pact is designed to encourage and safeguard cross‑border investment flows. The cultural accord amendment updates cooperation between Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and Myanmar’s Ministry of Culture, Hotels and Tourism. The media MoU aims to strengthen collaboration in broadcasting, journalism and information exchange. The signing took place as both countries move to broaden bilateral relations. Officials said the agreements reflect a shared commitment to deepen cooperation in economic, cultural and social fields, while also reinforcing institutional and governmental ties. President Min Aung Hlaing’s visit includes meetings with senior Cambodian leaders and ceremonial events, highlighting the importance both sides attach to strengthening relations and expanding cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
