Speculation Over Xi Jinping's Health and Leadership in China

Whispers of internal turmoil in China have reached a fever pitch across international diplomatic circles and social media platforms. Speculation about Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s health, leadership standing, and political future continues to spread whenever high-ranking officials vanish from public view. Since the Chinese Communist Party Congress, Xi Jinping's public appearances seem to have decreased compared to before. Notably, certain reports from his demeanor at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in November 2023 and subsequent domestic inspections have fueled speculation, as if to corroborate theories of health concerns. However, the Chinese government has officially denied these speculations, emphasizing that Xi Jinping's leadership remains unshaken. Thai experts and analysts assess that, at present, these speculations are unlikely to have direct and immediate impacts on Thailand's economy or politics. While Thailand, as a member of ASEAN, has strong economic ties with China, its domestic political and economic situation is relatively stable, thus not anticipating immediate repercussions from uncertainties within China. However, from a long-term perspective, instability in China's domestic situation could become a factor increasing geopolitical risks for the entire region, necessitating continued close observation. The question of whether China's internal issues will "finally crack the most centralized system" is being discussed among observers. From Thailand's perspective, the dynamics of China, a major player in the ASEAN region, are an undeniable factor in terms of economic security, requiring a stance of careful observation of future developments.
