Cambodia Boosts Information Officers' Capacity to Combat AI-Generated Disinformation

Cambodia is prioritizing the enhancement of its information officers' capabilities to counter the threat of disinformation amid the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI). On August 8, 2026, a training workshop themed "Public Opinion Formation and Countering Disinformation in the AI Era" was held in Udon Meani Chey province, presided over by Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Committee for Information and Public Opinion Coordination, Svay Sithar. The workshop saw the participation of approximately 400 individuals, including Udon Meani Chey Provincial Governor Mian Chanyada, provincial authorities, relevant agencies, and information officers from the provincial down to the commune/sub-district levels. The objective was to share knowledge and skills regarding the progress of AI technology, the negative impacts of disinformation, and practical methods for identifying, analyzing, and effectively responding to it. Presentations were delivered by two experienced speakers: Pen Bona, Minister Delegate attached to the Prime Minister and head of the Government Spokesperson Unit, who also serves as the permanent vice-chairman of the National Committee for Information and Public Opinion Coordination, and Mak Rathmony, a senior official responsible for AI at the committee's secretariat. Both speakers emphasized the importance of equipping information officers with the ability to respond swiftly and effectively to disinformation. Deputy Prime Minister Svay Sithar expressed his strong hope that the new knowledge and experiences gained from this training would enhance the participants' commitment, attentiveness, and responsibility in performing their information and public opinion duties more effectively.
