Businesses Advised to Meet Standards Beyond Tariffs to Optimize FTAs

A Ho Chi Minh City official said FTA utilisation should go beyond tariff preferences as export markets impose stricter requirements on quality, technical standards, environmental protection and sustainability. It must go hand in hand with improving product quality and meeting technical standards, green requirements and sustainable development criteria. Vietnam has signed FTAs with numerous countries and regions, leading to reduced or eliminated tariffs and boosting export competitiveness. However, major export markets, particularly developed nations, are increasingly demanding higher standards for product safety, environmental impact, and labor rights. Ho Chi Minh City, as a hub for manufacturing and export-oriented businesses, is urging companies to meet these international demands. The city plans to strengthen information dissemination and support systems to help businesses adapt. This highlights that true FTA utilization involves not just tariff benefits but also building a foundation for credibility and competitiveness in the global market. This approach is crucial for Vietnam to solidify its position in global supply chains.
