Naga City Declares State of Calamity Amid Dengue Outbreak

LEGAZPI CITY — The Naga City government on Tuesday (September 8) declared a state of calamity after dengue cases in the city reached 200, including six fatalities. Most of the cases were recorded in the barangays of Cararayan, Carolina and Concepcion Pequeña. The Sangguniang Panlungsod approved the declaration following a recommendation from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council amid the continuing rise in dengue cases. Mayor Leni Robredo ordered the intensification of cleanup and search-and-destroy operations, particularly in areas identified as potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes, as part of efforts to contain the outbreak. Robredo said the Naga City General Hospital had reached full bed capacity because of the influx of dengue patients. The city government was considering using Super Health Centers as additional facilities for patients who needed to be admitted, she said. /apl
