Preah Vihear Agricultural Communities Sign Contracts with Two Companies for Organic Produce Supply

Agricultural communities in Cambodia's Preah Vihear province have signed contracts with two private companies to supply 40,000 tons of organic rice, 15,000 tons of organic cassava, and 10 tons of organic peanuts in 2026. This initiative is expected to create new market opportunities for approximately 3,500 smallholder farmers in the province. The agreement was facilitated by the "KOUCH Project" under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, in collaboration with the Preah Vihear Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Preah Vihear Mchey Agricultural Community Union. The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Meas Pheap, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Director of the KOUCH Project; H.E. Kim Rithy, Governor of Preah Vihear Province; and Mr. Song Saran, President and CEO of AMRU Rice (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. The KOUCH Project, supported by the Green Climate Fund, provides farmers with climate information, agricultural advice, and farming equipment to help them produce quality crops and harvest them in a timely manner, even amidst climate variability. One community leader stated, "The ongoing partnership with AMRU Rice gives farmers greater confidence in planning their production. Thanks to the climate information and agricultural advice provided by the KOUCH Project, farmers can make better decisions based on weather forecasts. The harvesters supported by the project will also help us harvest faster and reduce losses due to unpredictable weather." The KOUCH Project plans to assist approximately 100,000 farming households, or 450,000 farmers, across Cambodia.
