Cambodia and U.S. Business Group Eye Boost in Value-Added Farm Exports

PHNOM PENH, Sept 10, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and the American Cambodian Business Chamber (ACBC) are exploring ways to expand trade and investment cooperation, focusing on adding value to agricultural products and widening access to the U.S. market, officials said Wednesday. The discussions took place on September 7 during a meeting between Buon Sarakmony, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, and Chan Sokvasna, Founder and Executive President of ACBC, accompanied by a delegation of U.S. firms active in food processing, packaging, shipping and logistics. Sarakmony welcomed the delegation’s interest in Cambodia’s farm sector and underscored the potential to further process products before export. Items identified included rice, cashew nuts, durian, Kampot pepper, cassava and rubber, which the ministry said could generate greater value addition. The ACBC delegation voiced strong interest in expanding operations in Cambodia, citing abundant raw materials and quality products that remain under‑utilised. Both sides discussed linking Cambodian producers and suppliers with U.S. buyers and distributors, while strengthening packaging, warehousing, shipping and logistics systems to preserve quality and improve competitiveness. Officials said the talks also highlighted opportunities for deeper cooperation across the agricultural supply chain, from production and processing to packaging and distribution. ACBC confirmed plans to bring additional U.S. business delegations to Cambodia in the near future to further explore opportunities and expand trade and investment ties between the two countries.
