JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) has successfully completed the 2D SE Java Offshore Seismic Survey along 6,000 km in the Indian Ocean. The 2D SE Java Offshore Seismic Survey is part of the implementation of the PHE Jambi Merang Definitive Work Commitment (KKPJM) in the open area which includes offshore sea areas in 6 districts in East Java, namely Pacitan, Trenggalek, Tulungagung, Blitar, Malang, and Lumajang. VP Exploration Technical Excellence & Coordination PHE and Head of Project Engineering, Ahmad Najihal Amal said, the acquisition project in the southern Java Sea was carried out in two phases due to natural challenges in the form of high waves and strong undersea currents in the Indian Ocean. "The first phase starts in October 2025 and is temporarily stopped in December 2025 for work safety considerations (HSSE)," he said, Wednesday, September 9. He added that after the extreme weather subsided, the second phase continued in July 2026 until it was officially completed on August 26, 2026. Najihal also emphasized that the 6,000 km seismic survey project was successfully completed with a safety record of Zero Accident. "The 2D SE Java survey can be completed well without any HSSE incidents thanks to the mature operational preparation, cooperation, and effective synergy from all functions and stakeholders in 6 districts of East Java, the East Java Provincial Government, and the ranks of security personnel (Kodaeral V Surabaya, Lanal Pacitan, and Lanal Malang)," said Najihal. This project is an important milestone in the PHE New Venture program in the South Java Sea region, which has been considered less promising because it is located in a fore-arc basin area. However, PHE sees the Trenggalek-Pacitan area has its own potential for hydrocarbon accumulation. This finding is expected to open up opportunities for new oil and gas exploration work areas/blocks to support national energy security in the future. In its implementation, this survey applies 2D Marine Streamer Broadband acquisition technology. This technology allows for more accurate imaging of the geometry of the earth's subsurface, especially on high-depth exploration targets (deep targets).
