6 Evacuated After Landslide Damages House in Baguio Village

BAGUIO CITY — Six Baguio residents were evacuated on Thursday after a landslide damaged a house at Purok 3 in Barangay Guisad Surong. The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) reported that the affected residents were relocated to a pastor's house in Purok 4. The incident occurred in an area close to where a much larger erosion event on August 9 killed 10 people. Baguio City, situated in a mountainous region, is prone to landslides, especially during the rainy season, posing a persistent threat to its residents and infrastructure. This evacuation serves as a precautionary measure to prevent further casualties, though it presents a new hardship for the displaced families. Authorities are assessing the ground stability and working to ensure the safety of the community.
