Vietnam Strengthens Social Security for People with Disabilities, Focusing on Employment Support and Service Access

The Vietnamese government is accelerating efforts to strengthen the social security foundation for people with disabilities, recognizing it as a pressing issue. Removing the barriers faced by individuals with disabilities in accessing social services, who are prone to difficulties in labor capacity, income, and health, is key to maximizing the effectiveness of social security policies. Based on this policy, the government will ensure that rights are more accessible to each individual with a disability, while expanding support for them to forge their own lives through vocational training and expanded employment opportunities. Under the principle of placing people with disabilities at the center of society, measures are needed to enhance their sense of self-affirmation in social life. In the education and healthcare sectors, it is considered important to promote the development of inclusive environments, establishing systems where everyone, regardless of disability, can receive education and access necessary medical care. Furthermore, a transformation in media communication is also called for, aiming to foster understanding throughout society by dispelling stereotypes about people with disabilities and promoting recognition from an equal perspective. Additionally, improving access to financial services is a crucial issue, with a policy to streamline the environment for people with disabilities to smoothly utilize banking services. These measures are linked to Vietnam's efforts to achieve its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and represent one of the key areas of social policy under Vietnam's one-party system, aiming to create an inclusive society. While Vietnam continues to experience economic growth, the enhancement of its social security system is an indispensable element to ensure that its benefits reach all strata of society.
