The Cambodian Red Cross, Preah Sihanouk Provincial Branch, is intensifying awareness campaigns on prevention measures against mosquito-borne Dengue Fever and Chikungunya in the community of Preah Sihanouk province's Preah Sihanouk district. On July 20, 2026, Mr. Kuon Sokun, Director of the Provincial Branch, along with Mr. Ee Tharin, Chief of the Preah Sihanouk District Sub-Branch, and 126 volunteers (including 24 women), collaborated with health center officials from six communes and local authorities. They launched an awareness campaign and distributed the larvicide "Albet" throughout the district. The campaign, running from July 20 to 22, covers all 10 communes in Preah Sihanouk district. Residents are urged to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, maintain tidy homes, take protective measures against mosquito bites (such as using mosquito nets and wearing long sleeves), and seek prompt medical attention if symptoms of infection appear. Emphasis was placed on avoiding self-treatment or seeking care from non-specialized medical facilities for symptoms like high fever (39°C or above), headache, muscle pain, and rashes. Mosquito-borne diseases are a year-round concern in Cambodia, with risks escalating during the rainy season. The Cambodian government, in cooperation with public health institutions, continuously implements such preventive and awareness activities to protect the health of its citizens. This initiative aims to encourage active participation and understanding from local residents, which is crucial for curbing the spread of infectious diseases.
