Cambodia Eyes Multiple Medals at Asian Taekwondo Championships, Bids for 2028 Hosting

H.E. Keo Remy, President of the Cambodia ITF Taekwondo Federation, expressed optimism about winning multiple medals at the 11th Asian ITF Taekwondo Championships in Mongolia, despite strong competition from traditional powerhouses. Speaking to reporters at Techo International Airport on the evening of Aug. 1 before leading the Cambodian delegation to the championships, which will be held from Aug. 3 to 9 in Ulaanbaatar, H.E. Keo Remy conveyed confidence in the national team's ability to achieve strong results. He also revealed that a key objective of his trip is to submit Cambodia's bid to host the 2028 Asian ITF Taekwondo Championships. The federation has prepared a presentation showcasing the Kingdom's sports infrastructure, accommodation, restaurants, and other facilities capable of supporting a major international event. H.E. Keo Remy highlighted Cambodia's successful hosting of the Southeast Asian ITF Taekwondo Championships in the past and expressed confidence that the country is well prepared to stage the continental tournament in 2028. He added that hosting the Asian championships would help boost sports tourism, attract international visitors, and generate economic benefits for local businesses and communities. According to national team coach Pal Chivoan, Cambodia's delegation comprises 47 members, including officials, one international referee, coaches, and 32 athletes from both the junior development squad and the senior national team.
