CMAC Director General Hopes for Justice for Preah Vihear Temple, Cites International Law

Heng Ratana, Director General of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) and a government delegate, announced on September 10, 2026, via his social media, that the wheels of justice for the Preah Vihear Temple, a Khmer ancestral heritage and a world heritage site, are gradually turning. The government delegate expressed gratitude to UNESCO-ICOMOS for releasing an assessment report on the severe destruction and damage to the Preah Vihear Temple. Concurrently, CMAC conducted research and evaluation of war remnants at the Preah Vihear Temple site. The investigation found that the Thai military dropped bombs and fired shots 501 times on the temple structure, causing damage to over 560 locations. Moreover, it was determined that these bombings and shootings were carried out with clear strategic planning, tactics, coordination, and command orders, with the objective of destroying the Preah Vihear Temple, a rare and most unfortunate heritage of the Khmer ancestors and a world heritage site. Mr. Ratana expressed strong hope that true justice will be served for the Preah Vihear Temple, and that those who destroyed it will be punished under international law and face the curse of the Khmer ancestors who built this temple for humanity's heritage.
