Ho Chi Minh City to Introduce Cash-Based Resettlement Policy Under Urban Development Law

Ho Chi Minh City is currently soliciting public opinions on a draft resolution that outlines compensation, support, and resettlement policies, notably introducing a breakthrough cash-based resettlement option derived from the Urban Development Law. This new approach, in addition to traditional land-for-land resettlement, offers residents the choice to receive monetary compensation and secure their own housing. Urban development projects in Vietnam, particularly in rapidly growing metropolises like Ho Chi Minh City, necessitate the relocation of residents due to infrastructure development and urban renewal. However, traditional resettlement policies have often involved complex and time-consuming processes for residents, including securing alternative land and adapting to new living environments. The introduction of a cash-based resettlement policy aims to address these challenges and broaden residents' options. This policy could potentially streamline negotiations between residents and authorities regarding land acquisition and relocation compensation.
