Hanoi Pilots Digital Consumer Protection and E-commerce Assurance Scheme
Hanoi is piloting a digital consumer protection and e-commerce assurance scheme, aiming for 500 participating businesses by 2028. This initiative supports Vietnam's goal of a transparent digital market under its new E-commerce Law.
Hanoi is piloting a digital consumer protection and e-commerce assurance scheme to enhance consumer safety and trust in the digital marketplace. According to a blueprint issued on July 27, 2026, the capital city aims to have 500 businesses and organizations participating in or connected to the scheme by 2028. The initiative also targets 1,000 products on dedicated digital storefronts or linked online platforms, with at least 80% carrying traceability information or suitable identification codes. This effort aligns with Vietnam's new E-commerce Law, which took effect on July 1, 2024, paving the way for a more transparent digital marketplace. The law aims to strengthen consumer rights protection in online transactions and foster a fairer, more reliable trading environment. The Vietnamese government views the growth of e-commerce as crucial for expanding market access for domestic products. The pilot program in Hanoi is considered a significant step towards fostering the healthy growth of the digital economy nationwide. In Vietnam's one-party system, economic growth is a key priority, and developing the digital economy is seen as a vital pillar. Especially given strong economic ties with China, ensuring domestic market integrity and building consumer confidence are essential for sustained growth. Information source: VietnamPlus English
