The new Qatari Ambassador to Indonesia, Sultan bin Mubarak Saad Al-Dosari, visited President Joko Widodo's hometown in Solo, Central Java. During their meeting, discussions covered the situation in the Middle East and bilateral relations, with the ambassador expressing his intent to deepen friendly ties between the two nations.
The new Qatari Ambassador to Indonesia, Sultan bin Mubarak Saad Al-Dosari, visited President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) residence in Sumber Village, Banjarsari District, Solo, Central Java, on Friday (17/7). Based on observations at the location, Jokowi received his guest for approximately one hour. After the meeting, Jokowi admitted to having a light conversation with Sultan bin Mubarak, asking about the situation in the Middle East. "Primarily, I just asked about the latest situation in the Middle East," Jokowi said after the meeting. Meanwhile, Sultan bin Mubarak stated that his meeting with Jokowi had been planned in advance. He admitted to having communicated with Jokowi via teleconference. "I just visited because it was planned beforehand," Sultan said. The visit, Sultan said, was to foster good relations between the two countries. Moreover, Sultan bin Mubarak has only been the Qatari ambassador to Indonesia for a few months. "I just had regular conversations, about the relationship between Qatar and Indonesia," he said. "Because I just arrived from Qatar as the new ambassador," he added. After meeting with Jokowi, Sultan bin Mubarak was scheduled to meet with the Mayor of Solo, Respati Ardi, at the City Hall. Sultan bin Mubarak was appointed as the Qatari ambassador to Indonesia by Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in late 2025. The ambassador's appointment letter was received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in February 2026. He was one of nine ambassadors whose letters of credence were accepted by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace in Jakarta on June 9, 2026. Since taking office at the Qatari Embassy, he has met with several Indonesian state officials, such as the Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani and Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. He also received visits from Prabowo and Foreign Minister Sugiono at the Qatari Embassy on July 15 to convey condolences on the passing of the former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
