Vietnam Approves National Digital Transformation Strategy for 2026-2030

Vietnam has approved its national digital transformation strategy for the period 2026-2030. The strategy aims to transform Vietnam into a developed digital nation where digital transformation is comprehensively implemented across all sectors and serves as the country's principal development model. At the core of the strategy is the establishment of a modern national governance system powered by data and AI, which is expected to enhance the efficiency of administrative services and the quality of decision-making. Strengthening domestic capabilities in strategic digital technologies, platforms, and products is another key pillar, aimed at reducing reliance on foreign entities and fostering domestic industries. Furthermore, the firm protection of national digital sovereignty is emphasized, signifying efforts to bolster cybersecurity and ensure the nation's independence in the digital space. This strategy aligns with the Prime Minister's directives for faster implementation of science, technology, and digital transformation agendas, underscoring Vietnam's prioritization of digitalization for national development. UNESCO has advocated for a people-centered approach in digital transformation within heritage, while the potential of digital technologies to spread religious teachings has also been noted. Under its one-party system, Vietnam prioritizes state-led economic development, with digitalization being a key component. The nation has experienced remarkable economic growth in recent years, and investment in digitalization is deemed essential for sustaining this growth and enhancing international competitiveness. In particular, increasing technological self-reliance is considered crucial from a geopolitical perspective, especially in relation to China.
