Cambodia Joins INTERPOL's First Online Fraud Task Force

Cambodia has been invited to join the "Task Force Shadow Storm," the first specialized unit established by the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) to combat online fraud. This inclusion signifies international recognition of Cambodia's progress in tackling online scams in recent years. The invitation to join this task force was announced concurrently with Cambodia hosting an international conference on combating online fraud. During the conference, Mr. Nicholas Court, Head of the Coordination Team at INTERPOL, confirmed Cambodia's participation in this new unit. He stated that the task force aims to assist member countries in apprehending more suspects, shutting down more fraud operations, and protecting more victims. Through "Task Force Shadow Storm," investigators from participating countries, including Cambodia, will collaborate at INTERPOL's location in Singapore. This will enable the reception and evaluation of actionable intelligence for cracking down on criminals who exploit technology for fraudulent activities. Mr. Court highlighted Cambodia's recent adoption of a "new law on combating online fraud," noting that it further enhances the capabilities of law enforcement agencies. He also acknowledged Cambodia's support for the "Call to Action" at the Global Summit on Fraud, co-organized by INTERPOL and UNODC in Vienna in March 2026. He expressed gratitude to the Cambodian National Police and NCB Phnom Penh for hosting the conference and bringing together numerous countries to address the threat of fraud. Simultaneously, he warned that fraud remains a pervasive criminal threat globally, necessitating close cooperation among nations to combat it. INTERPOL affirmed its readiness to utilize its tools and capabilities to translate commitments into concrete operational results. By hosting the conference, participating in the Phnom Penh Declaration, and joining "Task Force Shadow Storm," Cambodia is set to play a more defined role within the framework of international cooperation against cross-border fraud.
