Indian Tourist Detained After Picking Up Dropped Pattaya Taxi Driver’s Wallet and Not Returning It

PATTAYA: A taxi driver in Pattaya spent nearly three hours searching for an Indian tourist who picked up his dropped wallet and did not return it, ultimately leading to police intervention. Around 11 p.m. on September 4th, Mesa Chomkhunthod, 51, a taxi driver in Pattaya, sought police assistance after realizing his wallet was missing. The search, which began from the area where the driver believed he lost his wallet, eventually led to the discovery of the tourist's motorcycle parked along the Pattaya beachfront. Police identified the owner of the motorcycle as an Indian tourist and questioned him about the incident. Local reports indicate that the tourist admitted to picking up the wallet but did not show intent to return it. This incident highlights issues of trust between tourists and local residents, as well as cross-cultural etiquette.
