CIDG Nabs 3 in Navotas Fuel Theft; P6M Evidence Seized

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP–CIDG) on Monday said it arrested three men and seized P6 million in evidence in an alleged fuel pilferage, or “paihi” scheme, in Navotas City. In a press briefing at Camp Crame, CIDG National Capital Region (NCR) chief Col. John Guiagui said operatives tracked the suspects for weeks before their successful operation. "We have been tracking them for weeks," Guiagui said. The arrested individuals are said to be involved in stealing fuel from various supply points in the city and selling it illicitly. The seized evidence includes hoses, pumps, a tanker truck, and records of illicit transactions. "This type of crime not only harms legitimate fuel providers but also ultimately impacts the general consumers through unfair price increases," Guiagui said. Fuel pilferage has been a persistent issue in the Philippines, with authorities continuously working to curb such activities that lead to revenue losses and potential environmental hazards.
