Over 80,000 affected by Luis, Maymay, Habagat in Philippines
Over 80,000 people have been affected in the Philippines by the combined impact of Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay, and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat). No casualties have been reported, but some houses were damaged and extensive flooding occurred. The government has provided assistance.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) announced on Thursday that over 80,000 people have been affected by the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat). In its report as of 6 a.m., the OCD said a total of 80,633 individuals or 23,946 families have been affected in the following regions: A total of 6,929 individuals or 2,215 families were staying in 39 evacuation centers. The OCD has not recorded any deaths, injuries, or missing persons in connection with the weather disturbances as of the latest report. A total of 12 houses were reported damaged, all of which sustained partial damage. The OCD also reported 83 flooded areas in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Zamboanga Peninsula, and BARMM. Meanwhile, the government has provided P1.38 million worth of assistance to affected residents. —VAL, GMA News
