Defense Minister General Tun Tun Aung's Yangon Residence Attacked with Parcel Time Bomb After Urban Guerrillas Announce Resumption of City Operations

Days after urban guerrilla (UG) groups warned that they would resume intensified military operations in Yangon city, the residence of the military's Defense Minister, General Tun Tun Aung, in Yangon was targeted with a parcel time bomb. The parcel bomb arrived at the gate of the residence owned by General Tun Tun Aung, who transitioned from former Air Force Commander to Defense Minister, at approximately 4 p.m. on July 30th, addressed to his wife. The residence is located at plot number (21/22) on Thiri Mingalar Road in Kamayut Township. Fifteen minutes after the parcel bomb arrived, four DC model vehicles arrived from the military, blocked the road, conducted inspections, and neutralized the time bomb, according to some local residents. Only guards and some relatives were present at the residence. General Tun Tun Aung is currently residing in a high-ranking housing complex near the military headquarters in Zeyathiri Township, Naypyidaw. General Tun Tun Aung is one of the main responsible parties for the large-scale airstrikes that have resulted in mass killings, including those in Pazigyi, Anarpa, and Layyatkan, which have caused the highest number of civilian casualties between 2022 and 2024. The military has imposed an information blackout regarding this incident and has not yet released any statements. This marks the resumption of urban guerrilla operations in Yangon, which had been relatively quiet after the bombing of the Insein police station on July 21st. A responsible person from YA stated that the fighters are regrouping and will continue to carry out operations consecutively. Yangon Army (YA) has announced that they will continue to fiercely attack targets related to the military and those who claim to be the government that came to power through the military's illegitimate elections.
