Indonesian military forces (TNI) have announced the discovery of approximately 5,000 marijuana plants in Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat narcotics in the region, with authorities continuing their investigation. The discovered marijuana plants were found in two separate locations: 3,000 plants in Kima Kompleks Village and around 2,000 plants in Air Garam Village. In Air Garam Village, a bow and 26 arrows were also found near the site. According to the Head of Information for Koops TNI Habema, Lt. Col. Inf. M. Wirya Arthadiguna, the discovery was the result of a phased investigation involving information gathering on the ground. Soldiers navigated treacherous mountainous terrain and unpredictable weather, reaching remote areas that are difficult to access. "Upon arriving at the location, personnel documented, photographed, and secured approximately 5,000 marijuana plants as evidence. The entire process was carried out professionally, measurably, and in accordance with applicable legal provisions," Wirya stated in a written release on Friday (17/7). Wirya added that the investigation is ongoing to uncover the parties responsible for the existence of these plantations. "The handling of the case is carried out through synergy between the TNI, Polri, and relevant agencies according to their respective authorities," he said. He emphasized that the successful uncovering of these marijuana plants is part of Koops TNI Habema's commitment to protecting the people of Papua, especially the younger generation, from the dangers of drug abuse.
