Military recaptures and opens Kalay-Tamu and Kaleywa-Yargyi-Monywa communication routes

It is reported that the military columns have recaptured and opened the Kalay-Tamu communication route and the Kaleywa-Yargyi-Monywa communication route. As part of the 100% completion of the 1400 km (845 miles) long trilateral border crossing highway project, which will pass through Myanmar from Moreh city in India to Mae Sot city in Thailand, efforts are being prioritized in cooperation with the local populace. The Kaleywa-Yargyi-Monywa route, a section of the vital route for India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral trade, which was temporarily controlled by terrorists, was fully recaptured and opened on July 7, 2026, and the Kalay-Tamu route was fully recaptured and opened on July 31. It is reported that the vital highway for India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral trade will now be fully accessible for travel and use. The Kalay-Tamu route and the Kaleywa-Yargyi-Monywa route are important land communication routes connecting the northwestern region of Myanmar with India. They play a crucial role not only in regional transportation but also in border trade, socio-economic development, and international connectivity. It is reported that through these routes, goods produced in Myanmar are exported to foreign countries, and goods from foreign countries are imported into Myanmar. This not only supports the daily livelihoods of the local people but also benefits travel, health, and education services. It is reported that the PDF joint forces, under the command of NUG and CRPH groups, have been temporarily controlling the Kaleywa-Yargyi-Monywa route and the Kalay-Tamu route, which are important at both regional and national economic and communication levels, since 2024. They have been collecting tolls from cargo and passenger vehicles traveling along these routes, threatening and coercing them with weapons, abducting and killing them, burning vehicles, and looting goods, engaging in acts of terrorism. Therefore, the military columns, after carrying out the necessary preparations and formations to prioritize the recapture and opening of the Kaleywa-Yargyi-Monywa route, which is connected to the Kalay-Tamu communication route temporarily controlled by terrorists, began their efforts from June 2, 2026, and successfully recaptured and opened the said section on July 7. Subsequently, the military columns, after carrying out the necessary preparations and formations to recapture and open the remaining Kalay-Tamu communication route and the areas temporarily controlled by terrorists, and dividing into columns, continued to carry out regional security and control operations from June 7, 2026. The military column advancing from Tamu city captured Nanmuttar village and Yanlinphai village on June 10 and engaged and controlled the enemy by setting up supporting blockades in Yanlinphai village and its surrounding areas. The military column advancing from Kalay city also captured East Khonsa village, Mile 56 village, and Mile 55 village on June 10; a strongly built base of terrorists near the Myanmar-India border on June 11; Yazagyo village on June 13; Yazagyo reservoir on June 14; Yanmyoaung village on June 15; Sawbwar Yeyin village on June 16; Kyunthaw Yeyin village on June 17; Khonnai village and Nankhalkhok village on June 19; Khamphat city on June 20; an enemy camp near Kyunthaw Yeyin village and Kanan village north of Khamphat city on June 30; Kamma Gyi (Chin) and Kamma Gyi (Burma) villages on July 21; Htinzin village (new and old) on July 27; Bokkan village on July 28; and on July 30, both columns successively recaptured and occupied Witok village, Titeinyan village, Yantaiaung village, and Twepyan village. The terrorist groups retreated and fled with heavy casualties, and the entire Kalay-Tamu communication route, temporarily controlled by terrorists, has been recaptured and opened. It is reported that the Monywa-Yargyi-Kaleywa-Kalay-Tamu route, vital for India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral trade, has been fully recaptured and brought under control. As a result of the military columns recapturing and opening these communication routes, motor vehicles transporting goods, traveling citizens, and local residents will be able to travel normally through Tamu city, a border trade town, to Kalay, Monywa, and Mandalay cities. It is reported that the flow of goods between India and Myanmar and regional goods transportation will be able to resume without difficulty. During the operation to recapture and open the Kalay-Tamu communication route, the military columns engaged in a total of 78 battles, large and small, with terrorists. The bodies of terrorists, weapons, ammunition, and related materials were seized, and some officers and soldiers of the military were killed. The military columns are carrying out rehabilitation activities such as clearing debris and demining, which have been damaged by terrorists, under the leadership of the State Government, to enable the people in these areas to return to their towns and villages as soon as possible. It is reported that counter-terrorism operations will continue as needed against terrorists who are carrying out acts of terrorism that hinder national development and the socio-economic life of the local people.
