Fuel shortage in flood relief efforts in Hlaymyatnar Township

Social welfare organizations carrying out relief operations in Hlaymyatnar Township are facing a shortage of fuel, according to statements from the social welfare organizations. Fuel is needed for the vehicles and boats used in the relief operations, and although support is being provided by relevant authorities and donors, it is still insufficient, they said. Currently, the needed fuel has to be purchased by traveling to Hinthada city, and the addresses of shops where fuel can be purchased have also been announced by the Ayeyarwady Region Government. As of the evening of August 3, rescue operations for residents stranded in flood-affected areas within Hlaymyatnar Township are still ongoing, according to statements from some social welfare organizations. Furthermore, the Chief Minister of Ayeyarwady Region, U Aye Kyaw, arrived at the top of Seit Nyo Gone Taung on August 2 and coordinated efforts to ensure uninterrupted communication networks for the local people, to supply the fuel needed by government departments, social welfare organizations, and local residents, and to operate solar systems and generators to easily charge phones and electrical appliances, according to the Region Government.
