Prabowo Suggests Cabinet Reshuffle Momentum in Second Year of Presidency

President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia has stated that his second year in office presents a "suitable momentum" for a cabinet reshuffle. The President indicated that ministers have had sufficient time to demonstrate their capabilities and emphasized the need for continuous evaluation and personnel changes based on the principle of "the right person in the right place." Speaking on the program "Presiden Prabowo Menjawab" (President Prabowo Answers) on Friday, the President remarked, "Two years is a logical timeframe. Each individual has had time to prove their abilities, and so on." This was in response to a question about whether the period approaching his second year in office was an opportune moment for a cabinet reshuffle. The President assessed that his team has been working "very well," citing the achievement of food self-sufficiency targets as a prime example. He pointed out that the goal of food self-sufficiency, initially set for four years, was accomplished in just one year due to the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture. Prabowo explained that if a reshuffle were to occur, the reasons could be diverse. "If there is a reshuffle later, I believe it would be, among other things, for promotions. Of course, in an organization, we must always find the right person in the right place, focusing on competence. And if someone is perhaps not suitable for that position, then we must be able to replace that person," he stated. Since taking office in October 2024, President Prabowo has already conducted several cabinet reshuffles. Most recently, the position of Minister of Finance was changed on Monday, September 14, 2026.
