Cambodia Inaugurates 6.2km Road Rehabilitation Project in Preah Vihear Province
Cambodia has commenced the repair and rehabilitation of a 6.2km gravel road in Preah Vihear Province on the 13th. The Ministry of Rural Development anticipates the project will boost the regional economy, enhance urban-rural connectivity, and reduce transportation costs.
The repair and rehabilitation of a 6.2-kilometer gravel-surfaced road, spanning 8 meters in width, along with several engineering structures, officially commenced on Monday, July 13, 2026, in Yang Commune, Jam Krasant District, Preah Vihear Province. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by H.E. Dr. Noun Danyil, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Rural Development, accompanied by H.E. Dr. Lim Iv, Undersecretary of State, and H.E. Kong Ieng, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense. The project is being implemented by the Engineering Department of the Ministry of National Defense. Attendees included representatives from the Rural Road Department, the Development Committee, the Engineering Department of the Ministry of National Defense, the Provincial Department of Rural Development of Preah Vihear, local authorities, and residents living along both sides of the road. H.E. Dr. Noun Danyil conveyed the profound regards and best wishes of H.E. Dr. Chhay Rithysen, Minister of Rural Development. He stated that this road is another significant contribution from the new government through the Ministry of Rural Development, intended for the use of the people. The road is designed for multi-purpose use throughout all seasons and to be resilient to climate change. Crucially, it is envisioned as an economic artery, connecting businesses from one region to another. Furthermore, the project is expected to yield both direct and indirect benefits, such as integrating rural and urban areas, reducing transportation costs and travel time, and enhancing comfort. Ultimately, it is anticipated to play a vital role in reducing and eradicating poverty among the citizens. H.E. Dr. Noun Danyil appealed to the beneficiaries, local authorities, and commune/district officials for their understanding, patience, and cooperation with the construction team during the implementation of the work, in case of any disruptions.
