Prabowo Threatens to Revoke Permits of Corporations Involved in Forest Fires

President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia has issued a stern warning that all business permits of corporations proven to be involved in forest and land fires (karhutla) across the archipelago will be revoked. The President instructed law enforcement agencies not to hesitate in pursuing criminal charges in these cases. The statement was made during the 28th anniversary celebration of the National Awakening Party (PAN) at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Saturday, September 18, 2026. "Report to me once the evidence is strong. I will revoke all of their permits," stated President Prabowo, emphasizing that the government must take decisive action against corporations found to be in violation. The President referenced a report from the National Police Chief (Kapolri) indicating that 95 corporations are suspected of involvement or bearing responsibility for the karhutla. "The National Police Chief has reported to me that there are 95 corporations that are indicated to have violated, to be responsible for these fires," he said. President Prabowo explained that this measure is based on Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, particularly the principle that the state's control over land, water, and natural resources should be for the greatest prosperity of the people. "I will not hesitate because I am loyal to Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution. Land and water and all natural resources are controlled by the state, especially those who violate," the President stated.
