Infrastructure Development and Fishermen Support Progress in Poipet Province
In Cambodia's Poipet Province, infrastructure development including road and irrigation facility construction and renovation is progressing. Support in the form of rice and cash has also been provided to fishermen during the closed fishing season, as part of the government's regional development efforts.
Infrastructure development and support for local communities are progressing in Poipet Province, Cambodia. On July 4, 2026, Dr. Prang Cholsa, Director General of the Electricity of Cambodia and head of the government working group for local support in Krang Kor and Kandal districts, held a meeting with residents and presided over the inauguration of infrastructure projects totaling $216,771.75 USD, donated by the Electricity of Cambodia working group. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Kong Putthy, Director of the Electricity Transmission Department and head of the working group for Rung Thil and Sya communes in Kandal district; Mr. Nu Sokhon, Advisor to the Electricity Transmission Department and head of the working group for Kompong Luong commune in Krang Kor district; as well as the local working team, local authorities, and a large number of residents. The inaugurated infrastructure projects include: * In Rung Thil Commune: A parking lot measuring 20x750 meters, with a 5-meter wide canal and Rip Rap stone-reinforced banks. Additionally, 724 fishing families received support, including 20 kilograms of rice and a sum of money each. * In Sya Commune: A 5,300-meter long road surfaced with red gravel and a 2,600-meter long DBST (Double Bitumen Surface Treatment) asphalt road. Furthermore, 1,700 citrus saplings were distributed to residents for planting in their backyards. * In Kompong Luong Commune: A meeting was held with 350 fishing families, who received support including 20 kilograms of rice and a sum of money each. During the event, Dr. Prang Cholsa emphasized that these achievements would not have been possible without the correct leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, leader of the Cambodian People's Party, who has brought complete peace to the nation. He also stressed that these accomplishments were also due to the efforts of the government working group supporting Poipet Province (contextually inferred), led by Minister Keo Rattanak, and the support of Prime Minister Hun Manet. Dr. Cholsa called on the residents to preserve these achievements and participate in tree-planting campaigns under the theme "One Tree Per Backyard" to enhance the greenery and beauty of the province. Regarding the land and maritime border issues with Thailand, Dr. Prang Cholsa firmly stated that the Cambodian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet, maintains a stance of being "quiet but not silent." This means utilizing mechanisms such as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and other international legal frameworks to peacefully resolve disputes with Thailand. He urged all citizens to have strong confidence in the Cambodian government's leadership, which is working diligently to absolutely protect the nation's territorial integrity from any Thai aggressive ambitions. For the fishing communities, Dr. Cholsa highlighted the importance of respecting fishing laws during the closed season to ensure an increase in fish stocks for future generations. He also advised residents to be highly vigilant about their health and safety, especially during the rainy season. Source: CPP Cambodia
