Amon Targets Cambodia for High-Quality Electric Wire Production

AKP Phnom Penh, September 18, 2026 -- Amon World Communications is eying to establish an electric wire factory in Cambodia using Japanese technology, saying the investment could support safer infrastructure, industrial diversification and local supply chains. During a meeting in Phnom Penh on Sept. 17 with Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation H.E. Hem Vanndy, company representatives said AMON aims to manufacture high-quality electric wires locally, introduce Japanese quality-control and safety systems, and train Cambodian technicians. It also proposed cooperation with the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI) on standards, testing and research and development. Minister Vanndy welcomed the investment, stating that, “Cambodia wants not only to substitute certain imports, but to become a country that can manufacture, export and gain international recognition for our products.” He said the Ministry could support the investment through the factory establishment process, standards development, product testing, technology transfer and connections with potential buyers, including vehicle assembly plants and manufacturers of electrical and electronic products. Minister Vanndy added that locally manufactured wires meeting international standards could supply Cambodia’s growing automotive and industrial sectors, with the potential for export to regional markets. Also accompanying AMON’s delegation, a partner company JCI Lab proposed bringing other firms from China and Japan to Cambodian industrial exhibitions. It presented a separate proposal from autonomous-driving technology company Zelos to test autonomous delivery vehicles in controlled locations such as factories, ports or special economic zones. Amon, established in Cambodia in August, plans to begin setting up the factory around May 2027. Its major shareholder, Japan’s Nichigoh Communication Electric Wire Co., Ltd., manufactures electric wires and cables that comply with standards across several international markets. AKP-MISTI
