3 rebels killed in military clash in Abra
Three suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in a clash with the military in Abra province as government forces intensified operations against the communist insurgency. No soldiers were reported killed or injured in the firefight.
Three suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed as the military intensified its operation against members of the NPA’s Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee in Abra yesterday. Troopers from the Army’s 50th Infantry Battalion and the 98th IB clashed with around 10 armed guerrillas in Barangay Bonglo, Licuan-Baay town at around 11 a.m., according to Capt. Ed Rarugal of the Army’s 5th Infantry Division public affairs office. The remains of the fatalities were recovered at the scene of the encounter. No trooper was killed in the firefight.
