The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued Heavy Rainfall Warning on Sunday. According to observations at 6:30 AM on July 26, strong monsoon conditions over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal, combined with a low-pressure area near the West Bengal coast and Northwest Bay of Bengal, are expected to bring widespread rain and thundershowers. Rainfall is likely across Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Bago, Upper Sagaing, Ayeyawady, and Tanintharyi Regions, and Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Mon, Rakhine, and Shan States. Isolated heavy downpours are possible from Sunday until August 3. Squalls with rough seas are expected along Myanmar’s coastline, with wind speeds reaching 30 to 35 mph and waves rising 9 to 11 feet. Authorities warn the public to remain alert for heavy rain, strong winds, flash floods, and landslides, especially in hilly areas and near small rivers. Inland water transport and domestic flights may also be affected.
