Rayong Industries Inspect Map Ta Phut Factories Following Resident Complaints of Brown, Smelly Water

In Thailand's eastern province of Rayong, industrial authorities have commenced factory inspections within the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate following complaints from local residents about "brown, foul-smelling water entering the canals." This situation has raised concerns regarding the impact on the living environment of the community. As a result of the authorities' investigation, the cause of the pollution was identified not as industrial wastewater itself, but as the decay of aquatic weeds that had proliferated in ponds within the industrial estate. It is believed that this decomposition was responsible for the deterioration of water quality, leading to the brown color and foul odor. Currently, as a measure to address this issue, dredging operations of the affected ponds are being expedited. The plan is to remove the decaying organic matter through dredging, thereby improving water quality and aiming to alleviate residents' concerns. The Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate is one of Thailand's major industrial clusters, hosting numerous chemical plants and power stations. In the past, concerns regarding environmental issues have been raised with surrounding residents, and this incident once again highlights the challenges in achieving coexistence between industrial activities and the local community.
