AA continues to capture some military camps in clashes between Sittwe and Punnakyun, with heavy casualties on the military side

Fierce battles continue between the Arakan Army (AA) and the State Administration Council's military forces in the border areas between Sittwe and Punnakyun townships. On the morning of September 18, the AA captured two more military camps, including a guard post and an outpost, according to ground sources. The captured camps are a small guard post near Kan Gauk Kyun village, which is a guard post of the Shwe Min Gan Naval Base in Sittwe Township, and an outpost near Ye Yoe Prin village. "We heard that after capturing the guards near Min Chaung Bridge and around Aung Myay Kone near Shwe Min Gan a few days ago, they have now gained two more camps. The AA is counter-attacking using heavy artillery and drones," a Rakhine source told the Irrawaddy Times. After the AA captured these two camps, the State Administration Council's military forces lost the camps and used up to six fighter jets to bomb the areas where the battles took place, as well as villages in Sittwe, Punnakyun, and Pauktaw townships. It is also reported that some troops abandoned their weapons and retreated. Since September 4, the military has launched a ground offensive called "Operation 4926" involving thousands of troops from the Ain Che Kyun Bridge and Shwe Min Gan Naval Base in Sittwe Township towards Punnakyun Township. However, due to the AA's interdiction attacks, the military columns have been unable to advance and are retreating, and are continuing to lose existing camps. Currently, battles are taking place in the vicinity of Taw Kan village, where the main forward guard posts of the Shwe Min Gan Navy in Sittwe Township, including Zaw Madet, Kan Gauk Kyun, and the 7th Battalion, as well as the front-line guard posts of the Regional Operations Command (ROC), are located. Similarly, battles continue to be fierce in the areas of Sar Po Taung, Spa Htar, Kha Maung Taw, and Ye Yoe Prin villages in Punnakyun Township. Furthermore, battles have intensified near Taung Pauk village in Punnakyun Township, and although ground troops have not been able to cross Kan Taw village, they are attempting to advance towards the town entrance by military vessels along the Kaladan River.
