Vietnam Boosts Growth with Infrastructure Investment, Diversifies Partnerships
Vietnam is positioning transport infrastructure development as a foundation for growth, promoting investment from both domestic and international sources. Tourist numbers are also on an upward trend, raising expectations for economic expansion, while the country simultaneously seeks to strengthen diversified international partnerships.
Vietnam is strengthening investment in transport infrastructure as a foundation to support sustainable economic growth. Infrastructure development projects are underway across the country, expected to enhance logistics efficiency and boost tourism. For instance, Lam Dong province welcomed approximately 900,000 international visitors in the first seven months of 2026, a 15% year-on-year increase, indicating progress in the province's tourism infrastructure. Lien Khuong Airport is also set to significantly increase its daily flights and passenger numbers following ongoing upgrades, preparing to accommodate a rise in tourists. In terms of economic growth, investment in renewable energy is also accelerating. Trung Nam Hydroelectric Corp plans to invest over 4.92 trillion VND (approximately 188.2 million USD) in a floating solar power plant utilizing the Dong Nai 2 hydropower reservoir. This 240-MW facility is expected to generate around 464.19 million kWh of electricity annually, contributing to Vietnam's energy mix diversification. Internationally, Vietnam regards the US as a leading strategic partner, aiming for stable and substantive development of the comprehensive strategic partnership. Concurrently, it is strengthening ties with European nations. For example, through the German-Vietnam Hub, Leipzig plans to establish a business advisory system to promote economic cooperation, investment, and knowledge transfer. Furthermore, trade agreement negotiations with Mercosur (Southern Common Market) have commenced, highlighting Vietnam's diversification of international economic partnerships. Vietnam emphasizes its commitment to dialogue with investors and addressing issues based on harmonizing interests and sharing risks. However, challenges such as delays in site clearance and shortages of construction materials persist in infrastructure projects, with some projects facing work delays despite 2026 completion targets. Overcoming these obstacles will be crucial for Vietnam's continued growth. Copyright, VietnamPlus, Vietnam News Agency (VNA)
