Vietnam Expands Peacekeeping Role, Strengthening Global Engagement

A C-17 military transport aircraft of the Royal Australian Air Force arrived in Hanoi on September 23 to carry Vietnam’s Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 8 to South Sudan to undertake United Nations peacekeeping duties. The Ministry of National Defence held a departure ceremony at Noi Bai International Airport on September 22 for Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 8 and Engineering Unit Rotation 5, bound for UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and Abyei. While Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 8 replace Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 7 at UNMISS in Bentiu (South Sudan), Engineering Unit Rotation 5 will replace Engineering Unit Rotation 4 at UNISFA. Appreciating Vietnam’s active and pioneering engagement in security, political affairs, sustainable development and a just energy transition, Secretary-General Guterres expressed his hope that Vietnam will continue to play a strong role in the world’s transformation, contribute to efforts to address climate change under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), and promote emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI). Vietnam proposed that each country establish a specialised coordination task force to verify, investigate and handle complex transnational scam rings and cases, ensuring the rapid and effective exchange of information and coordination of investigations. The Platform, adopted by the 7th National Party Congress in 1991, holds particular importance in the development of the Party’s theoretical thinking. The 40-year review (1991-2031) aims to clarify the its value and vitality, as well as issues facing Vietnam’s development model in the new context. General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam had meetings with leaders of Ghana, Bhutan and the Vatican, and the President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York, on September 22 (local time), as part of his trip to attend the high-level general debate of the UNGA 81 and conduct bilateral activities in the US.
