Lightning Strike Kills Fisherman in Central Vietnam, Causes Widespread Power Outages

On the afternoon of September 15, Vietnam's central Quảng Trị province experienced a severe thunderstorm, leading to casualties and widespread power outages. Around 3:30 PM, Mr. Nguyễn Văn Tuấn (born 1985) from Nam Trạch village, along with another fisherman, set out in a small wooden boat for fishing near the coast. Before they could return to shore, a sudden squall brought heavy rain and lightning. Mr. Tuấn was struck by lightning and died at the scene. The accompanying fisherman immediately steered the boat back to shore and reported the incident to the authorities. Local officials visited the bereaved family to offer condolences. Meanwhile, in areas such as Lệ Thủy, Cam Hồng, and Sơn Thủy, lightning strikes hit power transmission facilities, causing extensive power outages. Footage captured by residents showed the power infrastructure ablaze after being struck by lightning, causing fear among the populace. According to Quảng Trị Power Company, the incident disrupted electricity supply to over 24,600 customers. The company dispatched staff to the scene immediately after the rain subsided and the storm passed to repair the damage and restore power. By early morning on September 16, electricity supply had been restored to all affected customers.
