Vietnam Emphasizes France Ties, Seeks Deeper Economic and Cultural Cooperation

Vietnam consistently attaches importance to its ties with France, one of its leading partners in Europe and its first Comprehensive Strategic Partner within the European Union (EU). Prime Minister Hung expressed delight at the positive development of bilateral relations, noting increasingly strong political trust and robust economic, trade, and investment links. Cooperation between Vietnam and France has made effective progress across a wide range of areas, including economy and trade, science and technology, education and training, culture and tourism, as well as defense and security. The bill concerning these matters was presented by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs at a Council of Ministers meeting on July 27 before being forwarded to the Parliament for consideration. National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man's upcoming official visit to the Republic of Korea from September 6-9 aims to advance bilateral relations from a strong political framework towards concrete, measurable outcomes that bring practical benefits to people and businesses in both countries. Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Cho Jeong-sik stated that cooperation between the Vietnamese and RoK National Assemblies plays a pivotal role in institutionalizing bilateral agreements and building a solid legal foundation for stable cooperation. Furthermore, Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung called on Vietnam and France to maintain delegation exchanges and high-level contacts, and to elevate economic, trade, and investment cooperation to match their potential. He also urged the two countries to seek breakthroughs in science and technology, innovation, energy, aerospace, transport, and railways, and to deepen collaboration in defense-security, healthcare, education-training, culture, and at the local level. Vietnam also attaches importance to cooperation with Myanmar, supporting its socio-economic development and national reconciliation. Myanmar, in turn, values Vietnam’s development achievements and prioritizes strengthening the Comprehensive Cooperation Partnership, while facilitating Vietnamese businesses’ investment and operations. Additionally, Vietnamese communities abroad are increasingly serving as important links between Vietnam and their host societies, contributing not only to stronger people-to-people ties but also to broader economic, cultural, and technological collaboration. This aligns with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam's emphasis that the value of the Party's resolutions and directives must be measured by their ability to address practical problems and bring about tangible, visible changes for the people.
