Rescue operations for flood victims accelerated in Laymyethna Township

The Ayeyarwady Region government announced on August 2 that rescue operations for flood victims are being accelerated and continued in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyarwady Region, where the Ngwa River embankment has broken, causing flooding. Firefighters, officials, and social welfare organizations are assisting in the relocation of flood-affected citizens and livestock remaining in flooded areas of towns and villages in Laymyethna Township to nearby safe evacuation camps, and benevolent citizens are also coming to donate food items, it is reported. According to figures as of August 1, 1,734 houses, 1,764 households, and a total of 8,382 people have been affected by the flood in Laymyethna Township, and 6,371 acres of rice fields in 6 village tracts have been submerged, according to the regional government. Assistance has been provided to relocate flood-affected citizens to safe areas and evacuation camps, and 246 cattle, 369 pigs, and 120 goats have also been moved to safety, it is reported. The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement has provided approximately 42 million kyats for rice and over 41 million kyats for basic food items as financial assistance to the flood victims, and the Ayeyarwady Region government has also provided food items, it is reported.
