Indonesia Secures Medals in Pentathlon and Teqball for 2026 Asian Games

The Indonesian contingent has ensured the acquisition of medals at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games even before the Asian sports festival was officially opened. The surprise came from pentathlon and teqball, two branches that were not previously included in the medal target projection. Chef de Mission of the Indonesian Contingent, Todotua Pasaribu, said Caroline Bangun in the women's single pentathlon and Sumaya in the women's single teqball both reached the finals. "There are two sports that we have entered the finals, first the women's pentathlon. This morning, the women's single teqball also entered the final," said Todotua in Nagoya, Japan, as quoted by Antara, Saturday, September 19. The result was a surprise because pentathlon and teqball were not included in the branches that were initially projected to contribute medals to Indonesia. Todotua hopes that Caroline and Sumaya's achievements can trigger other branches to surpass the target that has been set. "Our hope is that their achievements can be a source of inspiration for other branches, can provide another surprise and exceed the medal target. September 20, hopefully it can be our first gold medal," he said. Caroline secured a place in the final after completing four pentathlon races on Thursday, September 17. He collected a total of 1,351 points. Sumaya followed to the final after defeating India's representative Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza in the women's single teqball semifinal, Saturday, September 19. Sumaya won the three-set match with a score of 7-12, 12-9, and 12-7. With two athletes already in the final, Indonesia has at least secured medals from pentathlon and teqball. The color of the medals will be determined in the final match.
