Vietnam Proposes 7-Day Tet Holiday in 2027

The Ministry of Home Affairs of Vietnam has submitted a proposal to the government to extend the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday for the Year of the Ding Mui (2027) to seven consecutive days. Under this proposal, civil servants and public employees would have a holiday from the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month to the 5th day of the first lunar month, totaling seven days. This period corresponds to February 4th to February 10th, 2027, in the Gregorian calendar. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyen, Deputy Director of the Department of Civil Service Administration at the Ministry of Home Affairs, the 7-day holiday plan was developed based on current regulations and the opinions of various ministries and sectors. She explained that the extended break would provide more time for individuals, especially those living far from their hometowns, to prepare for and travel to celebrate Tet with their families. Businesses are advised to adjust their holiday schedules for employees in accordance with relevant regulations, based on the public servants' holiday plan. Previously, the Ministry of Home Affairs had considered another option that would have resulted in a 10-day holiday, but the 7-day proposal has now been submitted. For the National Day in 2027 (September 2nd), a proposal for a 4-day holiday, combining with the weekend, has also been put forward. Vietnam currently observes 12 paid public holidays and Tet holidays, including one day for New Year's Day, five days for Lunar New Year, one day for the Hung King's Commemoration, one day for Reunification Day (April 30th), one day for International Workers' Day (May 1st), two days for National Day, and one day for Vietnamese Culture Day.
