US Reiterates Commitment to Long-Term Peace and Cambodia-Thailand Border Resolution

The U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh announced on July 29 that border clashes between Cambodia and Thailand last year resulted in numerous fatalities, the displacement of families, and uncertainty for communities on both sides of the border. Three months later, then-President Trump facilitated the historic Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement, establishing a diplomatic mechanism to end the fighting and resolve the long-standing border issues. While there is still work to be done, the agreement continues to provide Cambodia and Thailand with a practical approach to reduce tensions and prevent a return to conflict. The United States remains committed to strengthening this long-term peace.
