GSIS disburses P27.3 billion in microloans via Ginhawa Go Program
The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) in the Philippines has disbursed P27.3 billion in microloans to over 460,000 government employees through its 'Ginhawa Go' program, aiming to provide affordable credit access and curb reliance on high-interest informal lenders.
MANILA, Philippines — State-run Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has released P27.29 billion in microloans to 463,608 active government employees under its Ginhawa Go Program, seeking to provide affordable credit access and curb reliance on informal and predatory lenders. In a statement, the GSIS said the loan facility, relaunched in February 2026 after operating as Ginhawa Lite, offers members financing from P1,000 to P50,000 at a six percent interest rate, with repayment terms ranging from 30 days to 24 months, depending on the loan amount. Finance Secretary Frederick Go, who led the relaunch on Feb. 19, described it as an important safeguard against abusive lending practices among government employees. “This program protects employees from abusive lending processes,” said Go, who oversees the GSIS under the Department of Finance. Applications are submitted through the GSIS Touch mobile app, with approved proceeds credited directly to the member’s account. The loan also includes Loan Redemption Insurance, which settles any outstanding balance in the event of the borrower’s death, protecting the family from financial liability.
