Phnom Penh Authorities Urged to Regulate Street Vendors for Improved Hygiene and Aesthetics

Mr. Khuong Sreng, a member of the Central Committee of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and Chairman of the CPP Phnom Penh Municipal Committee, has instructed district and sub-district authorities to organize and maintain order within their respective areas, particularly concerning unregulated street vendors. He stated that these vendors are degrading the aesthetics of Phnom Penh, a city where citizens are now living a civilized life in line with the nation's progress across all sectors. This directive was issued during a meeting with members of the CPP committees for Boeung Keng Kang 3, Olympic, and Tuol Tom Poung communes in Boeung Keng Kang district on the afternoon of July 8, 2023. Mr. Khuong Sreng emphasized that district and sub-district authorities must regularly inspect drainage systems, roads, and public order within their jurisdictions, ensuring that Phnom Penh does not lose its aesthetic appeal. He further stated that as authorities, they must recognize that organizing public order is paramount for securing votes. Maintaining good public order will not lead to a loss of votes. It is unacceptable for a small number of citizens to negatively impact the entire population of Phnom Penh. However, he added that this work must be carried out smoothly and with extensive public dissemination before implementation. Mr. Khuong Sreng continued, noting that the residents of Phnom Penh are currently living a civilized life, benefiting from the nation''s progress in all fields. Phnom Penh has also become a prime tourist destination. Therefore, he urged a collective effort to ensure Phnom Penh maintains good order, hygiene, and environmental quality. He also urged party members to act as esteemed propagators of the CPP's policies and the good deeds of its leaders, disseminating this information clearly to the public. He encouraged them to strongly counter opposition parties and called on each CPP member to become a voter who will secure victory in the upcoming elections in 2027 and 2028. Mr. Khuong Sreng expressed confidence in the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, the Prime Minister, who are resolutely committed to defending national territorial integrity. He stressed the importance of disseminating this commitment to the public to foster greater understanding and support for the CPP, leading to more votes in the future. During the event, commune chiefs and village chiefs reported on the party's achievements and ongoing action plans, including efforts to build party membership, maintain security and order for citizens, and combat online fraud.
