WCS Supports Large-Scale Seedling Nursery in Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) has proudly announced the completion of a regional-level seedling nursery at the headquarters of the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary, complete with an irrigation system. This nursery has the capacity to hold approximately 300,000 seedlings. According to WCS Cambodia, as of September 3, 2026, the Keo Seima REDD+ project has been closely collaborating with the Ministry of Environment to strengthen reforestation efforts in line with the government's Quadrilateral Strategy and the Ministry of Environment's Environmental Strategy for 2023-2028. This support focuses on developing a regional-level seedling nursery in the northeastern part of the country and improving nursery infrastructure to cultivate high-quality seedlings suitable for Cambodia's climate and terrain. The project has supported nursery infrastructure, including irrigation systems and the construction of gates for the regional seedling nursery, as well as providing seeds, seedling cultivation techniques, and seedling care at the nursery within the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary. In 2026, the Keo Seima REDD+ project supported the cultivation of 110,000 seedlings of various species, including Beng, Kakoh, Thnong, Sral, Kokir, and fruit trees. These seedlings will be used to support reforestation work within the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary and will also be distributed to local communities through the "Green Sprout" campaign, aiming to restore forest cover and enhance climate resilience. For 2027, the project plans to cultivate an additional 150,000 seedlings, with the goal of increasing the diversity of the ecosystem and providing further benefits to local communities and the planet as a whole.
